Govt Secures Land For Agogo Fulanis

The traditional authorities at Agogo and the leadership of Fulani herdsmen [nomads] in the area have begun inspecting a parcel of land in the outskirts of the community that will serve as grazing field for the cattle. The land, which is situated far from the crop farms of the Agogo residents, was allocated to the herdsmen by the traditional council pending a court hearing on the eviction of nomads from the town. Crop and cattle farmers at Agogo have in recent times engaged in a showdown following allegations that the Fulanis are perpetrating heinous crimes in the community. It led to a deployment of military personnel by the national security coordinator to evict the Fulanis. The Linguist of the Agogomanhene, Baffour Frimpong Manso, who is part of the inspection team, told Citi News the military personnel arrived in a helicopter for Tuesday's tour of the land. Right now Im in the bush with the soldiers and we are coming to find a place for Alhaji Grunsah and his people, so if they like to settle here right now, arrangements can be made for that," Manso said. Some of the Agogomanmakuo [youth of Agogo] are also here and were going through the bush and see how the place is and also to check if there are some farms around the place. Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa in the Eastern Region has told Citi News his municipality is not ready to accept the herdsmen who are facing eviction from Agogo. This is contrary to a Ghanaian Times publication on Tuesday quoting the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Patrick Timbilla, as saying the district has expressed interest in receiving the herdsmen. The DCE, Abass Fuseini Sbaabe, told Citi News the district already has issues with some herdsmen within his jurisdiction. According to him, weve never had any discussions with anybody or any security agency that such a move be made. We have our own share of problems with Fulani herdsmen and that we are working very hard to accommodate those we have in the district." Sbaabe added: We already have problems handling some of them, how then can we go and accept more of those people from other areas. "It is a problem, but we are accommodating it, it doesnt mean because we have been able to handle their situation, more problems be added on to us.
