Ghana Armed Forces Hold Shooting Competition

Brigadier General Richard Opoku Adusei, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, on Tuesday advised military personnel to master the art of shooting with the desired efficiency and effectiveness to fulfil the purpose of the Ghana Armed Forces. He was addressing the opening of a six-day 2011 Ghana Armed Forces inter-service shooting competition code named Exercise Fireblast, at Yawhima, near Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region on Tuesday. Brig. Gen Adusei, who represented Lieutenant General Peter Augustine Blay, Chief of Defence Staff,, said the competition was aimed at developing a healthy interaction among comrades-in-arms of sister military services. He said the exercise also sought to help soldiers to improve their efficiency in ensuring highest professional standards of the Ghana Armed Forces and asked officials and competitors to exhibit the highest sense of dedication and integrity. Also present at the event were Commodore Steve Darbo, Director General in-charge of training at the Armed Forces General Headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Cornelius Kobla Lithur, Commanding Officer, Third Garrison, Sunyani, and Directors of the three competing teams of the navy, army and air force. Mr. John Kwasi Mensah, Assembly Member for Yawhima, represented the chief of the town, Nana Ansu Ababio II. According to the programme for the competition, on Tuesday, November 8, matches one would involve M16 rifle practice, while match four would involve falling plate. On Wednesday, there would be amusement shooting, falling plate, SMG practice and falling plate for female soldiers in the afternoon. There would be amusement shooting, pistol practice, falling plate and presentation of prizes to deserving soldiers on Thursday.
