Kofi Adams Fights Asiedu Nketia...

It appears there is no end in sight to the raging confusion and divisions in the ruling National Democratic Congress following what many see as the entrenched positions taken by some major elements in the camps of both President John Evans Atta Mills and Party Founder Jerry John Rawlings. The partys General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has come under severe accusations as one of the major actors whose actions and utterances are deepening the crisis in the party, and more especially worsening the conflict between the presidency and the founder. Over the weekend, a deputy General Secretary of the party, Kofi Adams, minced no word in carpeting his boss for what he described as his irresponsible and unhelpful utterances which were undermining the partys unity and cohesion. Seth Ofori Ohene, a former communications director of the party, has also accused the General Secretary of overstepping his bounds with his utterances, especially those against former president Rawlings. Mr Nketiah last week stated categorically that the partys leadership would not beg Mr Rawlings to join the 2012 campaign, insisting that president Mills could win the election without the support of the partys founder. Before then the NDC chief scribe had insinuated that former president Rawlings was a barking dog that had been silenced in the party, and accordingly sent invitations to all those who left the party because of Mr Rawlings to return home. Mr Nketiah had again accused the partys Council of Elders, chaired by founder Rawlings, of not doing anything to resolve the deepening cracks in the ruling party. But his deputy who is also the spokesperson of Mr Rawlings believes Mr Nketiah, instead of blaming others for the current state of affairs of the party, should sit down and contemplate on the havoc he was wrecking on the party with his utterances. Speaking on Citi FM, Mr Adams insisted the ruling party had found itself in the current crisis because some leaders like Mr Nketiah had chosen to approach a complex issue with little-mindedness and rabble- rousing instead of adopting a level-headed approach. Im highly disappointed in his (Nketias) utterances, Kofi Adams lamented, adding: If you approach a complex issue with little-mindedness, it does not help the situation. He was particularly alarmed by the claim by the partys chief scribe that former president Rawlings could stay away from the party, and they would still go to ahead to win the 2012 general elections, adding: such comments dont help; they should cease. Mr Adams again faulted Mr Nketia on his claim that the party had found itself in the current crisis because the Rawlings-chaired Council of Elders had failed in its duty. In his view, it is rather the National Executive Council, which includes Mr Nketiah and himself, which should take the blame because the Council of Elders is answerable to the Executive Council. He accused the partys Executive Council of not following the partys constitution in their handling of critical matters in the party, citing their decision to ignore founder Rawlings in the processes that led to the re-nomination of Vice President John Mahama as the running mate for the 2012 elections. On one score, you say you want to follow the constitution; on another score you ignore it, he said of the partys chief scribe who thinks it is the Rawlings-chaired Council of Elders that is constitutionally charged to settle the current crisis in the party. Also condemning the NDC chief scribe over his utterances, Mr Seth Ofori noted on Joy FM: I strongly believe that as General Secretary of the party, who is responsible for coordinating all activities of the party, he shouldn't be making such statements.
