President Mills Hot...

The Gbewaa Youth, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) youth group in Tamale, has issued an ultimatum to government to find the killers of the late chief of Dagbon, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II or in default forever remain in Accra. The angry NDC youth who caused several postponements of the Presidents visit to the Northern Region warned government officials to stay clear off the north if the killers of the late overlord were not found and dealt with within the stipulated time. At a press conference in Tamale yesterday addressed by its chairman, Chief Zaachi Salman Sibri, the group accused government of capitalizing on the death of Ya Na to win power with the promise of unraveling those behind the gruesome act. According to him, it was now clear that the Mills administration never intended to seek justice for the people of the north but used the case of the Ya-Na as a conduit to solicit votes from Andanis and well-meaning people of Dagbon to win power. He expressed disappointment in governments handling of the whole issue, having won the trust of Andanis who claimed they could not entrust justice into the hands of the erstwhile NPP government which they alleged to have masterminded the death of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani. The NDC won power based on the trust of the Andani family but it is charting an entirely different path, the Andani youth observed. He said that the NDC government had currently compromised its stance on seeking justice for the people of the Northern region just because some elements within the party had been bought. The NDC had promised to get the killers of the late Ya Na jailed. A similar threat by Andani youth last year led to the mass arrest of people of Abudu stock who were hurriedly put before court, only for the court to free all of them for want of evidence after a long trial. The verdict caused a spontaneous demonstration among Andani youth who threatened to deal with government officials who come from that part of the country. Appeal against the ruling is still pending with no breakthrough yet. It reminded government that the hundred days promise of securing justice for Dagbon, as contained in NDCs 2008 manifesto, had long elapsed. The Gbewaa youth fingered government for allegedly kowtowing to the threats of Abudus, and threatened to unleash its fury on any government or NDC official who dared campaigning in the north if the matter was not resolved. It noted that it was keenly observing proceedings in the trial of the murder of Alhaji Issah Mobilla and indicated that the two service men could not be the only persons behind his death. Chief Sibri said Andani youth had become disappointed in government for back-tracking on its numerous promises it made to the people of the north, warning of a looming defeat in 2012 if it failed to change its ways. It sent a strong signal to President Mills to truncate any attempt to facilitate the performance of the funeral of the late Naa Mahamudu, disclosing that it would be over their dead bodies. The Abudus had served notice they would go ahead with final funeral rites of Naa Mohamudu in line with the Dagbon peace roadmap which appears to be stalled.
