Killler Lecturer Remanded (Photo Of Family)

Dr. Raymond Kasei, a lecturer at the University of Development Studies (UDS), Navrongo campus, has been remanded over the death of his wife, Clara Atampagram. A District Magistrate Court at Amasaman yesterday remanded Dr Kasei into police custody to re-appear on November 23, 2011. Though his lawyers pleaded for bail for him, the court declined the bail to enable police investigations to continue. He is suspected to have had a hand in the death of his 35-year old wife for which his standing trial. The police had disputed his claim that Clara had committed suicide by hanging. Claras father and family members were in court, watching their in-law in the dock amidst tears. Meanwhile, the Head of Administration at the University of Ghana Dental School at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Emmanuel Poku-Sarkodee, has described Clara as a very good worker. The man, who was ostensibly shocked by the untimely death of Clara, however, warned the public not to be quick in passing judgment since investigations had barely started. He noted that the sudden death of Clara who worked with the department for almost nine years was a shock to all staff. Another staffer who spoke with Daily Guide revealed that the workers were sad to the extent that when news broke at the office on Tuesday morning after the holiday, the school canteen was empty as most of the workers could not eat. She had only believed the story after the family of Clara showed them photographs of the deceased. The photos, the source said, showed a few bruises on her thigh and neck. Daily Guide sources at the school hinted that Clara was so much in love with her husband that she held him in high esteem, always recounting fond memories of him to colleagues. Dr. Kaseis name was therefore a household name at the Dental School, even when he was in Germany studying. It is very surprising that the same man has been named as Claras alleged killer. It is rumoured that Raymond has a German wife who he had introduced Clara to as his sister. Clara, who heard the rumuor, called her supposed rival to inform her about her relationship with Raymond, telling her that she had two kids with him. This apparently did not go down well with Dr. Kasei who confronted his Ghanaian wife over the matter. In the ensuing confrontation, tempers might have gone high, resulting in a fight that might have ended the life of Clara, according to unconfirmed sources. It would be recalled that Dr. Kasei was arrested in the early hours of Monday, November 7, 2011 over his alleged involvement in his wifes death. Kasei, who is a graduate of the Bonn University, Germany, where he studied Watershed Hydrology, was arrested and handcuffed at the Nsawam Government Hospital, where he had taken his wifes remains to deposit at the morgue, without informing the police since he claimed that it was suicide. Sources said the lid was blown off the alleged murder when the victims elder brother and sister got wind of the incident and dashed to their residence. The brother reported his in-law to the police upon suspicion of his sisters death. The police have had no cause to free Kasei as they found distortions in his narration of the circumstances that had led to his wifes death. While the police maintained that Claras body showed no signs that she might have killed herself, Kasei had told the police that Clara, who was depressed after a quarrel the previous night, hanged herself to a ceiling fan in the bedroom where she had locked herself up, leaving him alone in the living room. The police, after inspecting the crime scene, noted that the bedroom door which Kasei presumably broke to loose his wife from the height was still intact as well as the fan.
