Quack Doctor Arrested For Illegal Abortion

A quack doctor has been arrested for allegedly carrying out an illegal abortion on a 16-year-old student of a junior high school (JHS). The girl (name withheld), who was impregnated by her colleague student, was assisted by the boys mother to abort the pregnancy for the second time. According to the police, the girl was currently in a critical condition at the Half-Assini Government Hospital in the Jomoro District in the Western Region with serious damage to her genital and could hardly even urinate. The quack doctor, Michael Atuobi, was said to have used his instruments on the girl on different occasions in his attempt to abort the pregnancy and left the victim in serious pain at his self-styled home clinic at Sowudadzem. The police said the girl was said to have been impregnated by a colleague student, George Berko, 23, both of Awiafutu, but on realising the implications for the girls education, the young mans mother, Afia Asorh, 47, sent the girl to the self-styled abortion expert for the abortion. The Jomoro District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr John F. Dzineku, said the girls condition became very serious last Monday, November 7, 2011, after she had been sent back to Atuobi who was said to have inserted his fingers into her vagina in an attempt to pull the fetus out. The mother of the girl, who had returned from a journey, was shocked by her daughters condition and rushed her to the hospital and later reported the incident to the police.
