NPP Has A Secret AgendaThey Are Pushing For Electoral Chaos Presidential Aide

A Presidential Aide, Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye, is accusing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of having a hidden agenda for insisting on the verification process. Ghanas biggest opposition party, the NPP, has dropped hints of boycotting the 2012 general elections if the Electoral Commission (EC) failed to adopt biometric registration with a verification process. The party said the ECs position not to add verification to support the impending biometric voter registration would spell doom for the country as it could be a recipe for electoral dispute in the country and therefore would not want to be associated with that. Speaking in an interview on Radio Gold, Nii Lantey Vanderpuiye said: there is a hidden agenda and that is why they are insisting on itdo you know what will happen if you go to the polling station and the verification machine is not working? Chaos; that is what they want to pushthey want power at all cost and that is what they are aiming at. The Presidential Aide stressed that the 2012 election is not only about the availability of a verification machine, adding that the most important thing to be done is election vigilance. A couple of days ago, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan waded into the controversial issue of biometric verification, when he was reported to have said that it is no solution to electoral violence. The EC Boss noted that honesty and sincerity by all stakeholders, especially political parties was the way forward to ensuring a peaceful, free and fair elections. But at a days conference organized by the West African Parliamentary Press Corps in Accra on Monday, the EC chairman indicated that there would be biometric registration as well as verification as the budget for both processes had been presented to government. Anything that improves the system of verifying peoples identity is good. So if there is another way of improving the system, we have to do it, Dr. Afari-Gyan remarked.
