NPP Denies Plot With Catholic Bishops ...

A former Western Regional Minister, Joseph Boahene Aidoo, has denied allegations that he and other members of the opposition NPP coached the Catholic Bishops prior to the issuance of a communiqu in support of an electronic biometric register for election 2012. A group called the Young Democrats of the NDC in the Western region alleged that a member of the Bishops Conference, Archbishop Palmer Buckle, met some leading NPP members in a hotel at Takoradi prior to the release of their communiqu. Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Aidoo, who confirmed having met the Catholic Bishops stated, however, that he was only honouring an invitation by virtue of the fact that he is a Catholic. He also denied having discussed any of the issues he is being accused of. Aidoo in his defense stated: I have not influenced anybody; one thing which should be made clear is that the Catholic Bishops are not children, they have their own minds, what about the Computer Placement System issue, are you saying they are not using their own mind? He explained that he was invited to the Catholic Bishops Conference together with the incumbent Western regional minister, Evans Aidoo, who could not make the meeting thus was represented by the regional coordinating director, Yaro. He accused the NDC of making a mockery of the intelligence of the bishops. The Young Democrats alleged the meeting was part of a grand conspiracy to make the NDC government unpopular.
