Minister In Trouble With NDC Youth

THE DEPUTY Minister for Women and Childrens Affairs, Hajia Hawawu Boya Gariba, has incurred the wrath of her partys youth in Tamale following some comments she was said to have made. Hajia Boya is reported to have said during a meeting that the open generosity of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Alex Segbefia, by doling out huge sums of money to sections of NDC youth each time he was in the region, was making the work of ministers and MPs from the region very difficult. The comment by the deputy minister, DAILY GUIDE gathered, was said to have infuriated the Deputy Chief of Staff who had vowed not to extend any form of assistance to any party member from the region as his actions were being misconstrued. Due to this, the NDC youth accused the deputy minister of failing to help them and not allowing others who understood their situation to come to their aid. According to the aggrieved youth, Hajia Boya, on countless occasions, blatantly told them she had no jobs or cash for them, wondering why she was allegedly trying to prevent others from assisting them. But the soft-spoken deputy minister, speaking on Tamale-based Diamond FM, denied orchestrating moves to cut support from the Deputy Chief of Staff for party youth in the region as claimed. She admitted that some problems arose on one of Mr. Segbefias visits to the region which she got wind of; and as a native of the region, she thought it was prudent she helped resolve them. We must all collaborate in resolving problems of the youth rather than embarking on individual projects, she remarked. Hajia Boya did not divulge the particular problem that arose but said no single individual within the party could resolve all issues of the party in the region. The deputy minister, who is eying a slot as the NDC parliamentary candidate for a new constituency to be carved out of the newly-created Sanerigu district, accused her political opponents of peddling falsehood against her. According to her, since assuming the position as deputy minister, she had paid the school fees of some deprived students, medical bills and was facilitating the pilgrimage of some individuals. She described as libelous arguments that she had not contributed a dime to the growth of the party, rebutting claims that she was not a Ghanaian. She said she was poised to increase the number of seats of NDC female MPs in parliament and claimed some persons eying the same position were trying to bring disunity between her and the Deputy Chief of Staff. Despite her explanation, the youth have vowed to ensure that she does not emerge the partys parliamentary candidate for the yet-to-be-carved constituency since she has shown that she is not trustworthy. According to them, they would embark on a counter-campaign to ensure she failed in her bid, warning her to stay away from the constituency if she did not want to be disgraced during the primaries.
