Three Polytechnic Students To Be Rusticated

Three students of Ho Polytechnic are to be rusticated for misbehaving during a street float to mark the schools May 2011 Student Representative Council week. Dr Victor Jakpasu Afun, Rector of the Polytechnic, disclosed this at the Polytechnics 19th Matriculation in Ho on Friday but he did not mention the names of the students. Some students during the float allegedly went to the Ho Nurses School and indecently assaulted some student nurses and a tutor. The delinquent students were said to have forcibly fondled their victims breasts, while others flaunted their private parts during the float. Dr Afun expressed regret about the unruly and unthinkable behavior of the students and asked the fresh students to thoroughly read the hand book on rules of the Polytechnic to help them conduct themselves appropriately. He also expressed concern about increase in street mug around the Polytechnic campus with the arrival of students. Dr Afun said 1,930 out of 2,937 applicants were admitted to undertake courses and expressed worry that only 37 per cent of fresh students were admitted for science and technology programmes. He said only four per cent of those admitted for science and technology courses were women and appealed to female students to be interested in those programmes. Dr Afun said the Polytechnic was working hard to increase students access to Information and Communication Technology facilities and added that a website was being designed for the educational institution.
