Government Will Provide Decent Accommodation For Workers Bagbin

Mr Alban Bagbin, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, on Friday reiterated governments commitment to providing workers with decent accommodation. To this end, he said, the Government was seriously pursuing the necessary funding to enable his Ministry complete a total of 4,720 on-going housing units dotted throughout the country. Mr Bagbin made the pledge when some officials of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) led him to inspect housing projects being undertaken by the corporation in some parts of the Metropolis. Mr Bagbin admitted that though the countrys housing needs were colossal, and the challenge therefore, was a daunting one, government was determined to make houses affordable to workers in order not to defeat the purpose of the Housing Scheme. He urged Ghanaians to respect rules and regulations governing the putting up of structures, and warned that developers who built indiscriminately would not be spared. The Minister pledged his Ministrys unflinching support for TDC to enable it complete the projects on schedule. Mr Joe Abbey, Acting Managing Director of TDC, who led the inspection, warned all illegal occupants of the corporations on-going housing projects, to look for alternate accommodation in order not to face forceful eviction when the time came. The inspection took the Minister and the team to Community 22, 24 and 25, where TDC was executing the Housing Ownership Scheme and the Affordable Housing Estates Project. Mr Bagbin was accompanied by Nii Large Afotey Agbo, Minister of State and Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso.
