The nine hundred and sixty seven (967) members of the Central Regional Friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) at the weekend announced their withdrawal from the organisation. The members have therefore decided to support the main stream National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the 2012 general election. Mr Robert Galley Chairman of the Group who announced this at a press conference in Cape Coast said the club was originally formed to support Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, wife of former President Jerry John Rawlings, from disturbances that were melted out to her by the New Patriotic Party government, which included arraigning her unnecessarily, and also to support her during the Sunyani congress of the NDC. He explained that following current events in FONKAR, the members alleged that the club has deviated from its original course and was trying to defend �their mother�, Mrs Rawlings to destroy the NDC and also disturb President John Evans Atta Mills and his better Ghana agenda. Mr Galley said the sitting president was from the Central Region and they would not be a party to any action that would get him out of power, stressing that members would not like to go back to opposition. He said: �We are one body and one party; therefore we will do everything within our means to raise the flag of NDC high. That is why we, the 967 members of FONKAR in the Central Region have withdrawn from FONKAR to support our great party the NDC as originally planned.� He said there is no more FONKAR in the Central Region and anyone who claims to be a FONKAR member in the area �is a liar�. Mr Galley pleaded with the national executives and all members of the NDC to give due respect to the party�s founder Jerry John Rawlings, and also pleaded with Mrs Rawlings not to go independent as a presidential candidate for Election 2012. He also urged Mrs Rawlings to bring to bear her wisdom, knowledge, rich experience in politics as well as her massive support to the NDC party for a massive win in the upcoming 2012 elections. Mr Galley pleaded with the national executives of FONKAR especially the President and all members of the club, to close their ranks and �come home to support the party� which is poised to win the impending elections.
