Doctors Cry Foul...

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has said its members have been denied justice by the National Labour Commission (NLC) during the commissions ruling on the compulsory arbitration between them and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC). The leadership of the association said it was evident throughout the list of awards given by the Labour Commission that the concerns of the doctors were not considered while making a ruling on the matter. The doctors noted the Labour Commissions ruling on the issues that have created uproar between them and the FWSC fell short of their expectations and realities on the ground. The president of the GMA, Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Adusei, in an interview with Citi News said his outfit cannot disregard the ruling but will not hesitate to explore other options available to get the distortions in their migrations unto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) corrected. He urged the FWSC to come clear on the timeline for the migration of doctors unto the SSSS as soon as possible. We feel that the National Labour Commission have been put in place only to coerce the unions and the associations, Dr. Opoku-Adusei claimed. It appears that the National Labour Commission, FWSC and government are all the same. The way forward is that because we cannot challenge their award we are taking up [issues with] our sector ministries that is Ministry of Employment and the Health Ministry. We have also given a copy to the President [Atta Mills] because I think that we need to sit down and discuss issues further, he stated.
