Military Deployed To Bawku

Massive military and police personnel have been deployed to Bawku to avert any potential conflict between rival royals from Mamprusi and Kusasi groups over moves by the Mamprusis to perform the funeral of their late chief. The soldiers and police prevented the funeral ceremony from taking place for peace to prevail. The Kusasis and Mamprusis have intermittently clashed over recriminatory chieftaincy disagreements. The Bawku Divisional Police Commander ACP Kweku Peprah Boadu in an interview with Citi News said the security agencies fear there would be renewed clashes if the funeral ceremony was allowed since a paramount chief must be enskined after the ceremony. The Mamprusi community in Bawku wrote to us (police) that they wanted to perform the funeral rite of the late Alhaji Adam who died over 31 years ago, ACP Boadu said. We (police) replied that we cannot allow that funeral to come on because it would create insecurity in Bawku. He added that, we thought that security presence is necessary at where they wanted to have the funeral.
