Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom Sued

The Convention PeoplesParty (CPP) on Tuesday filed a writ at an Accra High Court to restraint Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom and 19 others from holding an Extraordinary meeting of the National Executive Council. In a statement of claim filed by Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, General Secretary, the party sought for a declaration that the agenda set down in the purported notice of an Extra-Ordinary meeting of the party was ultra vires the authority of the National Executive Council. "A declaration that the notice for an extraordinary meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting is illegal and not conforming with the requirements for the issuance of a notice of extraordinary meeting of NEC under the CPP constitution", the statement said. The Plaintiff is also seeking a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from convening or purporting to convene an extraordinary meeting of the National Executive Council without strict compliance with the letter and spirit of the constitution of the CPP. The defendants are: the CPP, Dr Nduom; Mike Eghan of Accra; Mohamed Murtala of Accra; Mary Ankomah Boateng of Accra; K. A. Edu Ansah in the Central Region. Micheal Kwamena Sam of Accra; and Nana Boadi of Accra. Others are: Olivia Addo, Eastern Region; David Terpker , Eastern Region; Alhaji Selifu Abass Ashanti Region; Dr T. B. Kwofie, Ashanti Region; Osei Yaw, Ashanti Region; Seth Gomwah, Brong Ahafo Region; Emmanuel Oduro, Brong Ahafo Region; Alhaji Issah Zorro, Northern Region, Mahama Iddirisu, Northern Region, Ramson Yinkil, Upper East Region; and Henry K. Bank, Upper East Region. The statement of claim explained that between November 18 to 24 Dr Nduom and the other 19 defendants signed a document purporting to be notice of an extraordinary meeting of NEC. The agenda for the illegal NEC meeting are: approve the opening of nominations for parliamentary and presidential candidates to take immediate effect, approve the scheduling of a national delegates conference to elect the presidential candidate of the party to be held on Saturday December 17 and approve the members of the Elections Committee of the party to supervise the election of 2012 parliamentary and presidential candidates of the party.
