Kufuor Must Be Probed For Fraud - Woyome

A member of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Alfred Woyome, is calling on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate former president John Kufuor and members of his government for engaging in alleged financial under-dealings. Mr. Woyome is accusing the former president and his government for using dubious means to deny him and his company a bid to re-build the Kumasi and Accra Sports stadia ahead of CAN 2008. This, he said, led to him being awarded the GhC42 million compensation after he won a suit in court over the matter. Addressing a press conference on Monday evening, Mr. Woyome justified the compensation he is to receive from the state. The former government and administration went to Barclays Bank and borrowed money commercially when there was available money which was concession and approved by the World Bank, he claimed. He added: They went also for a Chinese company and borrowed money internally at a commercial rate liable to a percentage which was almost close to 10 percent to build stadia and used that money to pay a foreign company. When you go over there youd see the nature of those works and compare with Accra and Kumasi and compare the prices. "So EOCO should be aware and invite President Kufuor and his entire cabinet that went into Akosombo and decided to abrogate a legally acquired fund which was given concurrent approval, Mr. Woyome requested.
