Teshie MP In Hot Waters

THE MEMBER of Parliament for Ledzokuku in Greater Accra, Nii Nortey Dua, is in hot waters as a group calling itself Teshie Youth in Need of Development is calling for his head for lack of performance. The group alleged that Nii Nortey Dua had proved to the people of Teshie and Ghana as a whole that he is an incorrigible failure who has no business in local and national politics. Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Otis Okine Ruthwell, chief spokesperson for the youth group, explained that Nii Duas three years in parliament had brought nothing positive to the town. Instead, it had enlarged the size of his pocket and those of his cronies astronomically. The youth of Teshie cannot see light at the end of that long tunnel as he has been promising, he added. He said the acute water problem faced by the people of Teshie had graduated from worse to worst under his leadership. What used to be Kufuor gallons before the 2008 general elections are now being called Egya Atta golongolon. The spokesperson claimed that Nii Nortey was on record to have said that he cared less if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party went into opposition. This can only be the words of a man whose assumption of political office was nothing but a fluke, the spokesperson noted. The youth group continued that the MPs numerous campaign promises, which included helping the youth to secure lucrative jobs under the better Ghana agenda, awarding scholarships to brilliant but needy students, giving Teshie a developmental facelift, equipping the youth with employable skills, among others, were all lies. Mr. Ruthwell indicated that it was alleged that the MP of Ledzokuku had built two beautiful mansions in less than three years, one in Teshie and the other one at Adenta. According to him, the youth and graduate unemployment rate in the area had reached an alarming height, a situation that could only be described as hopeless. He again claimed that Nii Dua had bad communication manners, noting, Anytime he is put under the slightest pressure over his failure to keep his campaign promises, his responses have been foul and abusive. This has led to calls from several quarters for him to go back to school to be taught leadership principles and public administration. We are talking about a man who is the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports of our motherland. It is sad to note that he has no known documented policy on youth development in his own constituency. What a shame! This tells of the depth of his ineptness, Ruthwell noted. The chief spokesperson observed that branch executives in the constituency had accused the MP of adopting a colonial style of divide and rule tactics, leading to the creation of factions in the Ledzokuku NDC party. His lack of respect for his own party foot-soldiers has reduced morale among the rank and file drastically, he said. The group alleged that Nii Nortey Dua had been the worst MP Teshie had ever produced. The youth have still not come to terms with the kind of considerations that went into his appointment to the high office of Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports. We deeply regret his emergence into national politics and pledge to undo this terrible mistake come election 2012, should the NDC retain him as their candidate. We are calling on President John Evans Atta Mills to advise Nii Nortey Dua to resign from his deputy ministerial position within two weeks, or have him fired for making the NDC unpopular in Teshie and also giving credence to ex-president Rawlings and Dr Ekow Spio Garbrahs team B assertions, he stated. Attempts to speak to the MP were unsuccessful.
