STX Will Be Liable For Any Debt Ghana Incurs - Bagbin

The Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister, Alban Bagbin, has issued a strong warning to the squabbling STX partners that they will pay for any cost incurred by Ghana as a result of their boardroom bickering, which has delayed the start of the $1. 5 billion housing project. STX Korea and its Ghanaian partners are battling each other in court over who takes charge of the project which is meant to build about 30,000 housing units for public service workers. Mr. Bagbin told Citi News the boardroom wrangling by the partners has stretched governments patience to the limit. They, in future would have to pay for this, he served notice. Bagbin added, That must be made clear. So when not long ago the chief executive officer came out to apologise to His Excellency the President and the nation for what they have done and that they were settling their differences and that the project would commence soon, that was good news for all of us, but its taken a long time for them to settle the differences and were completely disturbed about the situation. He, however, indicated that the payment he is talking about could be in terms of cash payment the country would incur and not being given contracts from Ghana again. As far as the affordable housing project which the governing party inherited from the Kufuor administration is concerned, Mr. Bagbin said a lot of the almost 5,000 housing units are about completed.
