Western Region: Father Shoots Son Dead

A sixty-year-old farmer at Samenye near Mpataba in the Jomoro District who had accused his son of stealing dried coconuts from his farm on Saturday shot him dead when he met the son on his farm. The farmer, John Oppong Andoh, reported himself to the Mpataba Police, the Jomoro District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police John Ferguson Dzineku told the GNA on Monday. He said Andoh had accused his son, Kwesi Abrochie, to be responsible for the rampant stealing of dried coconuts from his plantation at Samenye and claimed that despite repeated warnings to the son to stop the stealing, Abrochie continued. On December 17, Andoh paid a surprise visit to his plantation and saw his son stealing some of the coconuts and shot him in the chest at close range, killing him on the spot. DSP Dzineku said when police later searched the rooms of the suspect, two single barrel shot-guns and three life cartridges were found and would be sent to the crime laboratory for examination.
