A Sneak Press Preview of a documentary dubbed: �An African Election� was held on the eve of the New Year in Accra. The 89-minute documentary, which mainly focused on elections in Ghana, especially the 2008 presidential and parliamentary elections, sought to bring to the fore some core issues of governance in Africa, especially in the area of elections and the transition of political power. The film also throws light on some high points of Ghana�s political history. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Jarreth Merz, producer of the film, said he was inspired by the fact that there is �too much negative news on politics in Africa�. He said Ghana's 2008 election was a typical example of how capable an African country could successfully deal with an election crisis. Mr. Merz said the documentary was an ideal point of reflection, especially as the country prepares for polls this year. He added that politicians and other stakeholders in the election, could observe some of the weaknesses they might had to overcome in order to ensure a successful election. Touching on the title of the film, he said, though solely on Ghana, it was supposed to appeal to the international community. Mr Merz said with Africa and not Ghana featuring in the title, the film was promoted better beyond the boundaries of Ghana and Africa as a whole. He said the documentary also served as a point of reference for other African countries, saying �I have shown this film to a number of political figures in some countries, which faced political instability because of failed elections and they were highly impressed with Ghana�s story.� Mr. Okudjeto Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister for Information, said the documentary could serve as an educative piece for politicians, the academia, and the general public as whole. He added that such works went a long way to promote good governance and political stability. The documentary would be available for public viewing in February 2012.
