Gh8,000 Spent On Unclaimed Bodies Of Fulanis

The Gushegu District in the Northern region of Ghana has so far spent about GhC8, 000 on unclaimed bodies of some 13 Fulani herdsmen murdered at Zamashegu last year. According to the Gushegu District Chief Executive, Alhaji Alhassan Fuseini, there was an earlier agreement to bury the dead at Gushegu, but the Burkinabe Consulate kicked against the decision. The Consulate requested that the bodies be transported to their home country. This has left the Assembly with no option than to continue incurring more cost on the corpses which have been deposited at the Gushegu Hospital morgue since December. Alhaji Fuseini, however, said there are moves to transfer the corpses to the Tamale Government Hospital to prevent the Assembly from incurring further costs. Anytime there is light off we need to buy diesel for the generator and you know how much it costs. Its a very serious cost to the Assembly and thats why we called on them to facilitate the burial but unfortunately they have not gotten back to us, Alhaji Fuseini said. We have carried out autopsy on them and that had to be borne by the Assembly and as part of the relief package to the Assembly, we have gone into agreement with the Tamale Teaching Hospital where they have stability of electricity so that we can transfer the bodies there. Hopefully within this week well be transferring the bodies there, he added.
