Dozens Arrested In Apam Police Swoop

Dozens of residents mainly men in Gomoa-Abrekum near Apam in the Central region have been arrested in a dawn swoop by the police in Apam. The men were arrested for causing damage to a private property and attacking workers of a construction firm working on a new hotel facility in the town. The residents reportedly stormed the hotel which belongs to an expatriate, destroying several building materials. Their action was a reprisal attack on the workers of the hotel after some land guards for the owner of the hotel reportedly attacked some of the residents a few days ago. It was about 3am when the police came into the town. They arrested men from almost every house because there was some misunderstanding between the owner of a new beach hotel and the people, a brother to one of the arrested residents, Christopher Welsing told Citi News. A lot of parents and wives are weeping and they dont know the reasons why they have been arrested. The Police Commander for Apam, DSP Douglas Lumor, in an interview with Citi News confirmed the arrests. The arrests were on the unlawful damage done to a hotel building in the town. Investigations currently are ongoing, he said. DSP Lumor, however, could not confirm the number of people taken into custody.
