2 Persons Arrested For Possession Of Arms

The Kasoa Police have arrested two persons for illegal possession of firearms and attempted robbery. The two, who were arrested at two separate locations in Kasoa, are Kojo Hagan and Collins Asare, both 23. The Kasoa District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Mr Ebenezer Asare, who made this known to the Daily Graphic Tuesday, noted that during the Yuletide, his outfit deployed personnel at various parts of Kasoa, including beer bars. That, he said, was to ensure that the people in the town celebrated the Christmas and New Year festivities peacefully. About 7.50 p.m. on December 31, last year, he said, policemen spotted Hagan at a beer bar and based on suspicion they decided to search him. Mr Asare said when the policemen made an attempt to search Hagan, the suspect dropped a parcel wrapped in a piece of cloth from his pocket. On inspection, he said, the parcel turned out to contain a locally manufactured gun and a compact disc. He was arrested and sent to the police station, but during investigations Hagan denied ownership, he said, adding that when Hagan was prevailed upon to disclose the source of the gun, he declined to do so. Mr Asare said about 10.50 p.m. on January 2, this year, Collins went to a provision shop at Estate Junction, along the Kasoa-Nyanyano stretch. At the shop, he said, the suspect, armed with a toy pistol and a knife, demanded money from its owner, Salomey Oppong, who is a complainant in the case. He said Salomey told the suspect to wait as she went inside the house for the money, explaining that unknown to the suspect, Salomey went and told her husband, who came out with a pump action gun and fired a warning shot in the air. The suspect, sensing danger, then took to his heels, but he was chased and arrested by some people in the neighbourhood.
