Rapists Arrested

Two persons, who allegedly led a group of 15 people to rob residents of Peace Town, near Amanform, Accra, of their monies at gun point and raped a 16-year-old girl during their operation have been nabbed. Appearing before an Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday, Isaac Klutse aka Tiger, 35, and Hayford Kumah Kwabla, 28, have been charged with eight counts of conspiracy and robbery. Klutse is additionally being held for rape. Their pleas were not taken by the court presided over by Mrs Audrey Kucovie-Tay. The court has remanded them into Police custody to re-appear on February 6, and directed the police to conduct HIV and AIDS test on Klutse. Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Reindolf Agyemang, told the court that the Police would forward a duplicate docket to the Office of the Attorney General for advice. The prosecution said the eight complainants reside at a developing area known as Peace Town at Amanfrom. ASP Agyemang said Klutse, a pupil teacher and Kwabla, unemployed, on December 21, 2011, led a group of 15 people some of whom were armed with locally manufactured pistols and raided the residence of the eight complainants. The prosecution said the accused persons and their accomplices went to the first complainant, Abdul Aziz Abubakars house and robbed him of GHC400 and three mobile phones valued at GHC245. After the act, they locked Abubakar in his room and went to the next house and made away with GHC1, 500 cedis and five phones valued at 500 Ghana cedis, ASP Agyemang said. The prosecution said the accused persons and their accomplices, attacked four other residents, robbed them of GHC800 cedis and inflicted cutlass wounds on Rebecca Ayorkor, who prevented the group from manhandling her ailing mother. ASP Agyemang said the accused persons vented their spleen on Borkor Okine, another complainant, when he attempted to ascertain what had happened to the other complainants. The prosecution said the accused persons took away Okines GHC400 and three mobile phones and proceeded to the next house. ASP Agyemang on reaching there, the accused persons and the group destroyed their two sewing machines and Klutse raped a 16-year-old female in the house. The prosecution said some people who had been robbed earlier reported their ordeal to the Police. ASP Agyemeng said on the arrival of the Police, the accused and the group had absconded, but with the help of members of the Landlords Association, Klutse and Kwabla were apprehended.
