A-G Discovers Fundamental Constitutional IssuesWants Refund Of Monies Paid To Woyome

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu, says his outfit has discovered "fundamental constitutional issues" with respect to the whole Woyome saga. Mr. Amidu is therefore challenging how the company led by Mr Woyome managed to secure such a huge contract with the government without parliamentary approval. In a new twist to the controversy, the A-G who appeared in court in person on Monday, prayed the court to place an order of refund of the 51 million judgment debt mistakenly paid to Mr. Alfred Woyome. In challenging the capacity of the embattled NDC financier to bring a suit against the state, Mr Martin Amidu claims Parliament was not in the know of any such contract with Woyome and his company, which should not have been the case particularly when it was an international financial agreement and parliament ought to have been informed. It would be recalled that the Attorney General last month filed a suit at a Commercial Court in Accra to challenge payment made to the NDC guru, Alfred Woyome as a result of a judgment debt he won. But on Monday, he pleaded with the trial judge for more time to study the case saying he has filed an amendment to his earlier writ and claims. Counsel for Alfred Woyome objected to the request and pleaded with the court to award cost in their favour but the judge overruled their request. The judge subsequently adjourned the case to February 14. More soon
