I Never Endorsed Dr. Bawumia - P.C. Appiah Ofori

The outspoken New Patriotic Party member of parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa in the Central Region, Paul Collins Appiah Ofori says he cannot endorse the candidature of Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia as the partys running mate for the 2012 presidential election. According to him, Dr. Bawumia is not a winning candidate who can maximize the votes of the NPP, adding his personality does not appeal to floating voters. The controversial MP said this in reaction to an earlier publication that he (PC) had endorsed Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia. Speaking on Adom FM on Wednesday, Mr. Appiah Ofori argued that any NPP member who knows the history of the party will not endorse Dr. Bawumia because of the past deeds of Dr. Bawumias late father Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia. He claimed that Dr. Bawumias father, who was a Minister in the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, instigated the detention of Mr. R.R Amponsah, a founding father of the UP tradition which is a precursor of the NPP. The MP asserted that the son of such a person cannot be allowed to become the second in command of the NPP. He maintained that Dr. Bawumia did not win any significant votes in his constituency when he was first made the running mate and this is a clear indication that he cannot win more votes in the Zongos which is key area for the NPP. He added that Dr. Bawumia is not an orator and such personality will make wining elections very difficult for the NPP. P.C. Appiah Ofori however proposed that Lepowura Alhaji Mohammed Nurideen Jamwula could be considered as Campaign Manager for Dr. Bawumia, should the partys flagbearer insist on choosing him as his running mate. He explained that Alhaji Jawula is in tune with Ghanaian politics and his personality will appeal to more voters in the Zongos. The MP noted that the NDC is not resting on its oars but striving to get more votes from the north and that is why President Mills appointed more Deputy Ministers from that area to embark on massive campaign.
