THREE PERSONS who stole a VW Touareg and changed its original wine colour to blue-black in order to resell it have been arrested by the police. The Tema Circuit Court �A,� presided over by Mrs. Lorinda Owusu, has remanded into police custody the second and fourth accused persons, Eric Agbenu, a 25-year old Information Technology Engineer and Emmanuel Osei, a 27-year-old mobile repairer respectively. For the third accused person, Kojo Annor, a 28-year old sprayer, a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest. The architect behind the stealing of the car, George Quarshie, a driver, who is now on the run, was said to have been employed by the complainant, a student at the Central University College as her driver but little did she know that she had employed a criminal. According to the court, he bolted with the vehicle after dropping his madam off at school and later called to inform an eyewitness that he had been kidnapped by some unknown persons. Briefing the court on the case, Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere said that in October 2011, the complainant, Ruby Trish Van-Lare, who owned the 4 12×4 �> VW Touareg with registration number GE5522-11, employed George as her personal driver to drive her to school daily. He said that on December 12, 2011, the driver, drove her to school and was supposed to wait and drive her back home but, at about 3:30pm, the complainant came out of the examination hall only to realized that her driver as well as the car was nowhere to be found. According to the prosecutor, the driver had bolted with the car valued at �66,000 together with a suitcase of new clothes she had bought, one Ipad model A1396 also valued at �1,100, two Nokia and blackberry phones and a purse containing an unspecified amount of money. The prosecutor told the court that in the course of the day, the driver called a witness in the case informing him that he had been kidnapped at gun point and tied up by some unknown persons. He also said that the kidnappers drove him to a place around Aflao. The prosecutor said that while efforts were underway to locate the driver, an informant alerted the police on December 23, 2011, that the driver had sent the car to the second accused person (Eric) to change the identity of the car to resell it. The second accused also sent the car to the third accused�s shop at Baatsona to obliterate its original colour. The prosecutor added that the police, therefore, acting upon tip-off, invaded the shop and arrested the second and third accused persons and recovered the car which had been sprayed blue-black. He said that the second accused�s room was searched and a bag containing the two number plates of the car, its manual, two exhaust pipe covers and equity and an insurance cover were all recovered. The prosecutor also mentioned that the fourth accused was arrested at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle while offering the Ipad for sale. According to the prosecutor, the recovered items have all been handed over to the complainant. The prosecutor added that efforts were underway to get the first accused arrested while a bench warrant had been issued to re-arrest the third accused person.
