Andre Ayew: Weve Reached A Level Where We Need To Win Trophies

Ghana midfielder Andre Ayew has said that it is about time the Black Stars ended their close to 30 years of Africa Cup of Nations drought. The 22-year-old told ESPN that the country has been waiting for far too long to annex the trophy for a fifth time. He said that with the remarkable improvement of the 1982 Nations Cup champions in recent years, adding a fresh trophy to the cabinet in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea will appease the west African fans. Now we've got to a level where we need to win trophies and I think thats the only way we can get satisfaction, the Olympique Marseille youngster said. So we are going to give our best and I believe that. Personally, I am going to be very proud and happy to have done something for my country. I think it is even difficult to explain what this trophy can mean to Ghana and to me. I know our nation is been waiting for this for a long time now. They really want to have the joy of a winning team. We have a team which has been doing well, let me say since 2006, Ghana has been progressing and progressing, he added. The son of Africa football legend Abedi Pele won bronze in his debut Afcon on home soil in 2008 before earning silver two years later in Angola, and he is now aiming to win gold at the 28th edition of the continental showpiece. Ghana will play their opening game on January 24 against Botswana.
