Defectors To PPP Not Members of GCPP

The Great Consolidated Peoples Party (GCPP), has denied the recent alleged defection of some of its executives to the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) as false. It also described those who signed the defection statement as imposters whose fraudulent behaviour have been reported to the security agencies for action. In a statement jointly signed by Mr Henry Herbert Lartey, Acting National Chairman, Pastor Harry Mettle, Acting General Secretary, and Mr George Amoah, Acting National Organiser, noted that the GCPP was of the view that those imposters tried the deceit on the United Renaissance Party and the Democratic Freedom Party but were rejected. Last thursday, Alhassan Saeed and Mr Gilbert Barnor issued a written statement of their resignation from the party and declared utmost support for Dr Paa Kwesi Nduoms Progressive Peoples Party (PPP). The two said the decision to be part of the new and yet-to-be outdoored PPP was because of the philosophy of Dr Nduom. In addition Alhassan Saeed was arrested a year ago and put in jail at the Nima police station. He was accused by the Leader and founder of the URP, Mr Kofi Wayo, for lodging in a hotel several times at the expense of the URP without the consent of the party. Also during his time with the URP he is alleged to have stolen US$ 5,OOO, the statement said. It said, according to Mr Wayo, he agreed to the release of Alhassan Saeed from the Nima police station on the grounds of good behaviour , adding that Characters like this should not be allowed to walk freely to continue to create such fraud in our well respected democratic process. The statement cautioned that any one who did political business with Alhassan Saeed and Gilbert Barnor did so at their own risk. It assured Ghanaians that the GCPP remained very viable, strong and was actively working at the grass root level, including holding elections at the constituencies. The National congress would be completed by May 2012.
