John Mensah: I Thank God For First AFCON Goal

Ghana defender John Mensah has said that despite being given his marching orders in their opening game against Botswana at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, he is delighted to have scored the match-winner. The captain of the Black Stars received his second red card in the continental flagship for a professional foul on the Zebras Jerome Ramatlhakwane, who was clear on goal mid-way through the second half. He will miss the two remaining Group D games against Mali and Guinea as a result. I'm happy we won with my goal, the Olympique Lyon defender said in a post-match press conference. We had to win to boost our confidence. Mensah also saw red in the quarter-final of the 2008 Nations Cup against Nigeria, but he said that he believes his side is blessed with good players on the bench who can replace him. I thank God for my first goal at the Nations Cup, unfortunately I also got a red card. But we have a good bench and so we have a lot of players who can replace me in the two games I will miss, he added.
