A Human Rights Court in Accra has granted bail to the interdicted police officer, DSP Gifty Mawuenyega Tehoda who is at the center of the cocaine-turn-baking soda saga.
The police officer has been in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) since December 29, 2011 on accusations of playing a role in the cocaine exhibit swap.
She was granted bail in the sum of Ghc100,000 with two sureties. The beleaguered female officer was not in court Tuesday when her bail application was granted.
The court had on Monday directed the BNI to produce the accused in court but the BNI failed to do so..
That notwithstanding, the court granted her bail..
The presiding judge, Kofi Essel Mensah,explained that the charge preferred against DSP Tehoda � stealing of cocaine � is alien to the Criminal Code of Ghana.
DSP Tehoda's charge is"Abetment of crime to wit stealing of cocaine section 20 (1) of Act 29/60 and Section 56 (a) of PNDCL 236 (Narcotic Drugs (Control, Enforcement and Sanctions) Act 1990.
The particulars of the offence are that " Between July 21, 2011 and December 13, 2011 in the Greater Accra circuit and within the jurisdiction of the court did aid and abet one Nana Ama Martins' familes and other individuals to commit crime to wit loss of cocaine exhibit."
