Companies Want More Representation On Mining Review Squad

The Ghana Chamber of Mines has expressed concerns about the lack of representation from the mining sector in the newly constituted government team for review and renegotiation of the stability and mining agreements. The Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor yesterday inaugurated the 7 member team headed by Professor Akilakpa Sawyerr. The other members of the team comprise of tax, mining, legal and finance consultants. Speaking to Citi Business News, CEO of the Chamber of Mines, Tony Aubyn said representation from the mining industry would have made the team appear more balanced He said, The little concern is with the decision of the committee which is made up of very good personalities but I see that there is no representation of the mining industry and even though there procedure committee which will look at the policies that affect mining. I would have preferred if there was someone from the mining industry there so there could be a balance. Mr. Aubyn however expressed optimism that government will be fair in handling all the outstanding issues.
