Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, has commended the International Organisation on Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for supporting the government in effort at reintegrating Ghanaian returnees from Libya. Mr Agyekum said this when addressing over 50 returnees from Nkoranza South at a three-day workshop organised by Pentax Management Consultancy Services, an organisation contracted by IOM and UNDP to assist in the resettlement and rehabilitation of the returnees in the society. He said the government will offer the returnees the necessary support to better their lot and therefore advised them to form trustworthy groups to enable them be provided with credit facilities. Mr Macdonald Acquah, the leader of Pentax Management Consultancy, said available records from the National Secretariat of the Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) revealed that over 20,000 Ghanaians returned from Libya last year, adding 70 percent of the number hailed from Brong-Ahafo Region. He said about 120 returnees from Techiman, Kintampo and Nkoranza, were being provided with skill training under the umbrella of cooperative groupings, adding that the beneficiary groups were being supplied with working tools to embark on various vocations to earn their living. Mr Evans Osei Worae, Nkoranza South District NADMO Coordinator, praised the Government for considering the plight of the returnees and called on them to be self-disciplined and eschew any negative practices that could cast a slur on their images. Messrs Kennedy Yeboah and Donyina Koranteng, both leaders of the returnees in-charge of Artisan and Farming respectively, asked the Government to support the returnees with some credit facilities to enable them start their own businesses towards the upkeep of their families.
