Nine facilitators with Non-Formal Education honoured in Ellembelle

Nine facilitators with the Non-Formal Education Division(NFED) in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region have been honoured for successfully completing their first and second primers in the division. Their prizes included roofing sheets, Compact disc player, sewing machines among others. The Chairman for the occasion, Nana Kwasi Kutua IV, Chief of Nkroful, indicated that "we are in the part of the world where education plays an integral part in development and that non-formal education creates an avenue for people who could not go through formal education to be educated.� He applauded the facilitators for their devotion and volunteerism adding that literacy brings about development and expressed the hope that the division would continue with its awards scheme and introduce competitive prizes to encourage others to volunteer. Nana Kutua pledged the support of the traditional council to ensure that the division achieves its goal in educating the majority of the people to bridge the gap between the literates and illiterates. The District Co-ordinator for the NFED, Mr. Shaibu Issaka, indicated that the district has 11 zones, 30 facilitators, 30 classes and 1,097 adult learners. According to him, through the hard work of the staff, facilitators and learners, the district won the first prize in the Regional competition organized in 2011 with an awards scheme designed to encourage facilitators to give of their best. He said it would be a continual scheme to appreciate their facilitators, volunteers, and the learners as well to promote literacy in the district and therefore used the opportunity to thank Jesus Open Doors (JODL), a contractor in the district who assist the division through cash and logistics donation. Mr. Issaka pointed out that the World Bank support had been withdrawn from the division and so prevailed upon corporate bodies to assist the division to work effectively. The District Chief Executive(DCE) for Ellembelle, Mr. Daniel K. Eshun, noted that NFED had opened avenues for people to upgrade and become useful through literacy and therefore prevailed upon all and sundry to support the NFED to grow. He pledged the Assembly�s support to the division in its activities and donated a brand new dell computer with accessories on behalf of the MP, Mr.Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah to the division. In a related development, an eight-member District Advisory Committee (DAC) have been inaugurated to assist the division in community entry activities.
