The Bibiani-Anhwiaso Bekwai District Police command has apprehended five suspected armed robbers at Dominibo Number One on the Bibiani-Sefwi Bekwai road in the Western Region. The suspects, who allegedly planned to embark on a robbery expedition, were arrested by the police at about 3am on Thursday when they attempted to strike. They are Jafaru Boakye, 24, a native of Garu in the Upper East region, Ampaabeng Owusu Emmanuel, 31, from Dormaa Ahenkro; Kwaku Kyei, 25, from Agona Asamang; Kofi Oduro, 38, a native of Offinso New Town and Williams Atta, 35, a native of Ahafo Mim. They were all identified to be residents of Atwima Koforidua, a community in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region. The sixth suspect who was identified as �Burger� escaped arrest and the police are searching for him. Briefing Daily Guide, Bibiani District Police Commander, Francis Egya-Enor, said the suspects were apprehended by his patrol team when it spotted them preparing to strike. According to the police boss, nine assorted mobile phones, one locally-manufactured pistol, a toy pistol, a live cartridge and two nylon ropes, believed to be used by the suspects to tie their victims, were retrieved during a search on them. Also, an unregistered BMW saloon car allegedly used by the suspects in their operations was impounded by the police. The police command is also investigating a claim made by one of the suspects, Williams Atta, that he was a police confidant in the area. When Daily Guide got to the Bibiani District police headquarters, scores of residents in the locality had thronged the office to catch a glimpse of the suspects who had reportedly been terrorizing them. Residents praised the patrol team for apprehending the suspects. �The commander and his officers need to be commended for their efforts,� Mr. Appiah Twum, a 54-year-old trader said.
