NPP Aspiring MPs Urged To Start Campaigning Now

The Upper East Regional Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Yaw Mort has urged aspiring law makers on the ticket of the NPP in the 13 constituencies of the Region, to begin their campaigns now instead of waiting for last minute. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bolgatanga on Monday, he expressed worry about the way most of the partys aspiring MPs were not in the Region to begin their campaigns. 2012 Election is just at the corner and once in opposition, you dont have to behave as if your party is in governance, the Regional Organizer cautioned. He explained that as parliamentary candidates they were supposed to get themselves in every social gathering in the Region, especially at funerals to use the opportunity to interact with the people to win their confidence and trust. Mr Mort said MP aspirants should emulate the flag-bearer of the party, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo's listen tour where he made himself available at the grassroots to listen to them and to assess their needs and how he would address them when he gets the party to win. He said the NPP was poised this time to wrestle eight seats instead of the current four out of the 13 seats and also win the Presidential slot. Mr. Mort noted that most of the ruling National Democratic Congress' (NDC) members and other parties including the People National Convention Party (PNC) Convention Peoples Party (CPP), had promised their unflinching support for the NPP during the forthcoming election. He said his outfit was currently organizing majority of the members of the party to participate actively in the forthcoming biometric registration. The Regional Organizer mentioned some of the major constraints militating against the effective operation of the party in the Region as lack of logistics, especially vehicles, saying the party had not gotten any means of transport to go round. He added that some of the executive members including himself were using their own means of transport for the campaign and appealed to the National Executive of the Party to provide the Regional Secretariat with logistics, especially vehicles.
