A day�s workshop designed to help inject more efficiency and transparency into the management and budgeting procedures of educational institutions in the Ashanti Region has been held in Kumasi.
It brought together 285 participants including education directors, heads of public senior high schools (SHS), accountants and internal auditors.
Topics discussed ranged from the constitutional mandate of the Auditor General to the preparation and submission of financial accounts and its implications.
The workshop was organized at the instance of the Regional Education Directorate.
Alhaji A.S. Abdul Rahman, Director of Audit in-charge of the Kumasi Metropolis, took them through �validation of financial statements� and said financial statements should be structured in a manner that would make it easier to understand to serve the needs of the users.
He asked heads of the institutions to see to it that debtors and creditors were properly compiled and reminded auditors that in doing the validation of these statements they were required to verify the accuracy of the cash book, ledgers, journals and trial balance to ensure that revenue and expenditure records were fully captured.
Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, the Regional Director of Education, said the programme was part of efforts at promoting openness and accountability in the financial administration of the institutions.
