Dormaa Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has commenced an outreach campaign to sensitize people on the biometric voter registration exercise. Designed to cover all 10 urban and area councils in the Municipality, the exercise already held in places such as Asunsu No. 1, Babianeha, Nsuhia and Atesikrom, saw chiefs, assembly members, political party and religious representatives, opinion and youth groups' leaders attending. Participants were educated on the difference between the old and the proposed biometric voters register and the process involved in registration. Mr. John Kusi Appiah, Principal Field Officer, who took the participants through the processes of the biometric registration, noted that the exercise was meant to enhance fairness, accuracy, timeliness, legality and sustainability of a register that would stand the test of time. He noted that registration of voters was by law captured in Article 42 of the 1992 Constitution and was expected to cover all Ghanaians aged 18 years and above. Apart from conferring legitimacy on the electoral process, a comprehensive and well-maintained voters� register also serves as a working document for electoral administrators and political party candidates, he stated. He announced that for the first time in Ghana�s history, prison inmates would be allowed to participate in the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
