Felix Kwakye-Ofosu Attacks Nana Addo

At a time when Ghanaians are calling for an insult-free campaign, it appears members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team are gleefully engaging in the act, making the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo their subject of attack. A member of the Mills communication team, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, once again took a swipe at Nana Akufo-Addo, describing him as a wee smoker who would be an embarrassment to the country when elected President in the December elections. According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo would always be of great concern to the NDC because his character did not qualify him to become President. The foul-mouthed Kwakye-Ofosu said this in Ho when he addressed the youth of the party in the Volta Regional Capital and its environs during a tour organized by the youth wing of the party. The meeting, which was termed Family Talk, was part of a three-day tour of the region by the National Youth Organiser, Ludwig Hlordze and his two deputies, Barbara Serwaa Asamoah and James Fonu, as well as other propaganda leaders of the party. The tour started on Wednesday February 22, and ended on Friday, February 24, 2011. The team included Deputy Information Minister James Agyenim Boateng, Deputy Local Government Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and newly-appointed Deputy Regional Minister Henry Ametefe. They held meetings at Keta, Akatsi, Ho, Hohoe and Nkwanta. Felix said, When the whole country is to be put in your hands to manage, you are expected to exhibit certain character traits. Our President has passed the test; Nana Akufo-Addo has failed the test several times, and that was why the NDC was committed to proving to Ghanaians that even before he begins to pick up nomination forms to contest in 2012, he is already disqualified. He added, How can someone who wants to become president go and fondle another mans wife? It is unthinkable. How can someone who wants to be President be said to be smoking wee. Can you imagine a situation where we elect Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana and then he is sent abroad to represent Ghana in an international conference? They go and open his hotel room and here he is smoking wee with smoke all over his head. It is going to be a major embarrassment for the country. He said although the NDC had an impressive story to tell, there was the need to establish that the candidate the NPP had presented was not viable and unsuitable for the office of President. For him, President Mills was so clean and morally upright that even his political opponents like Kwame Mpiani had said that he could beat his chest, put his hands in fire and vouch for the integrity of the First Gentleman. According to him, these allegations against Nana Addo were not being concocted by the NDC but that they were put out by the international community and his close friends. Even in the international community, the American Ambassador wrote a document to his bosses in Washington and told them that Nana Akufo-Addo has come to their attention as someone who smokes wee and womanises. It is not the NDC who told Kofi Koomson who is Nana Akufo-Addos onetime bosom friend and a member of the NPP to tell the whole world that he cannot sleep with his eyes closed if Nana Akufo-Addo becomes President. It is not the NDC who told Kwesi Pratt to tell the American Ambassador that every morning when you go to Akufo-Addos house you will see a cloud of smoke hanging around his head because of marijuana smoking. Kwakye-Ofosu explained to the unhappy NDC youth that President Mills, in his three-year reign, has done more for the people of the Volta Region than what the NPP did in their 8-year reign. He noted that the NPP did not respect the people of the Volta Region and therefore could not willingly develop the region. He also urged them not to allow themselves to be deceived that the NDC had neglected the Volta Region. It is true that because the NDC has been in power for only three years it has not been able to do all the things that it wanted to do for the people of the Volta Region, he explained. Dont allow disgruntled members of the NPP to sow seeds of confusion in your minds so that you go and vote a party that does not respect you. From the days of their fore fathers they have insulted this region and maltreated sons of this region, including former President Rawlings. He therefore urged them to take solace in the fact that people of the region had more ministerial and government appointments than any other region in the country.
