'Cocaine' Legislation For Parliament Soon

The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has said a bill would soon be laid before parliament to amend the PNDC Legislative Instrument (LI) that established it to strengthen it in its fight against illicit drugs. Mrs. Akua Amartey, a Board Member of NACOB, said this on Tuesday during the launch of NACOBs annual report at Savelugu that was attended mostly by students and some youths. She said the youth are being exploited and lured into the drug trade and usage through the use of social media and appealed to parents to take interest in what their children do, adding that it was the right of the youth to be protected against drugs. The Minister of Interior, Mr. William Kwasi Aboah, said in a speech read on his behalf that the abuse of illegal drugs is a global phenomena occurring in all countries from the richest to the poorest and fueling global crime, corruption and terrorism. He said more was being done by the government in tackling the drug menace saying this government has raised the standard and bar for tackling the drug menace both in terms of supply, control and demand reduction and appealed to NACOB to play a more leading role in protecting people from drug abuse.
