Teenager Jailed Five Years For Causing Harm

A Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartety has sentenced an 18 year old girl to five years imprisonment for causing harm. Abena Rakia inflicted deep razor blade wounds on a co-tenant during a fight and pleaded guilty to the offence. Police Chief Inspector Archibald Kwesi Fandoh told the court that the victim, Gifty Mensah, lives in the same house with the convict at Bantama, Kumasi. On February 29, at about 0700 hours, Gifty came out of her room and met Rakia cleaning the veranda connecting their two rooms. The convict became angry with her for stepping on the veranda she was still cleaning. This generated a heated argument between the two resulting into a fight, but was separated by a witness in the case. The prosecution said moments later, Rakia attacked Gifty with a razor blade, opening deep cuts on her breast, back and mouth. Some people in the neighbourhood managed to rescue and rushed her to the hospital as she bled profusely. A formal report was made to the police and Rakia was arrested. She admitted the crime in her caution statement.
