Head Teacher Threatened

Head teacher threatenedConference of Head teachers orders school closed Following the receipt of a letter threatening the head-teacher of the Agbekotsekpo Methodist Basic School in the Dangme West District, the Greater Accra Regional Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) has ordered the immediate closure of the school. An unsigned letter was written to the head teacher warning him to vacate the school by February 29, because his presence was meaningless to the community. He was ordered to pack his belongings and leave by the end of the month, before it is too late. The letter stated in part: As a matter of fact if you dont want any trouble kindly and humbly leave before the time assigned to you or what started in the circuit will continue in your office too. This brings to two the number of Methodist Basic Schools closed down in the district after a similar threat was carried out at that Duffour Methodist Basic School where the head-teacher was assaulted by the community on January 16. As a meeting on Wednesday, February 29, the CHOBS expressed worry about the threat and directed that the school, with a population of 219 students and 15 teachers be closed down until an amicable solution is found to the problem. The chairperson of the conference, Mrs. Bernice Bulley-Quaye, who signed the directive, said the action would help protect the lives of the teachers. She said the association was taking a cue from the assault of the head teacher of the Duffour Methodist Basic School also in the same circuit on January 16 which is pending at Odumasi Circuit Court. We dont want a report of what happened at Duffour and that is why we are taking this decision to protect the lives of our teachers, Mrs. Bulley-Quaye said and called on all stakeholders to help resolve the issue urgently to forestall further disruption of the childrens education.
