The Alliance of Accountable Governance (AFAG), a group that makes heavy claim to upholding the rule of law and transparent governance is seeking to rescue the former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Martin Amidu, from the hawks of war and the hands of those he has described as �rented NDC press�. The group has asked for 24-hour security for Mr. Amidu for the role he has and continues to play in the country�s quest to reclaim well over GH�51million from self-confessed financier of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Alfred Agbesi Woyome. Mr Amidu has been at the forefront of the campaign for the recovery of the said amount after making revelations of an attempted cover-up by government officials, a cause that cost him his job as minister. On Thursday, the man, who has now made himself a vigilante-citizen, put out yet another statement in which he expressed disappointment at the level of legal representation of the State in court, and in a spirit of �all-die-be-die�, charged patriotic Ghanaians to stand up and defend the mantra of probity and accountability by being vigilant. But a statement issued by AFAG and signed by its Chairman, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, called on the President �to re-assure Ghanaians of a 24-hour security protection for Martin Amidu.� The group said if government failed to do so, �we shall hold the President accountable for any attack on the life of Hon. Martin Amidu.� It considers the former attorney�s attitude as a mark of bravery and saluted the man who has now been nicknamed �gargantuan� following his use of the word in a previous statement, whilst patting him on the back for setting up what they described as �a phenomenal, trail blazing pace, in the fight against corruption in Ghana.� �We are awed by such spirited forthrightness�, AFAG noted in its statement and pledged its support for any crusade that aimed to deter the perpetuators of gargantuan corruption against the state. AFAG has thus asked Ghanaians to expect a statement from them detailing their planned activities that would bear pressure on government to take an un-compromising and un-wavering stand on what has now come to be known and accepted as the Woyomegate and other scandals. It also promises to raise awareness and educate the general public on the severity of the Woyomegate and other financial scandals yet to be brought to the fore by AFAG, whilst seeking public opinion on how government is handling these massive scandals in order to assess public expectations of these gargantuan crimes. �Ghanaians should therefore expect very soon, a series of public fora to be held in all the 10 regions of Ghana by AFAG, dubbed �gargantuan forum��, it said.
