Akosombo Police Seize 138 Parcels Of Cannabis

The Akosombo Police have intercepted a private car loaded with 138 wrapped parcels suspected to be cannabis. The VW passat car, with registration number GR 2747 S was impounded by the police patrol team when the driver of the vehicle abandoned it and absconded. Briefing the Times, Chief Inspector of Police, Kwame Karim, of the Akosombo station of the Motor Transport Traffic Unit (MTTU), said the police patrol team was on a routine patrol on the main Ho-Accra highway at Atimpoku about 4:45 pm on Thursday, when they beckoned the driver of the said vehicle to stop when the police speed gun device detected he was driving above the speed limit in town. But he refused to stop and sped off immediately after pretending to slowing down. He said the police suspected something fishy and gave the car a hot chase whilst he called the Akosombo Divisional MTTU Commander, ASP Akwesi Yeboah who was heading towards home after close of work to be on the lookout for the said vehicle. ASP Yeboah then barricaded the main road to screen on-coming vehicles to arrest the culprits. He said, when the suspects, saw the road block, they branched on a rough road, abandoned the car and escaped with the ignition key at New Akrade. Chief Inspector Karim said, the police combed through the neighborhood and found the car which had been impounded by the youth in the community who claimed they saw the two men escape from the car. He said the vehicle was subsequently towed to the Akosombo police station. Chief Inspector Karim commended the youth for their assistance and asked the general public to volunteer information on the suspects. He said the registration number of the car would be forwarded to the DVLA office to trace the particulars of the owner of the vehicle.
