Government would be in rush reducing fuel prices without critically examining the drop in crude oil prices, Hon. Seth Tekper has revealed. The reason according to the Minister of Finance is to allow government make all necessary adjustment to the national budget.

At the forum dubbed “Meet the Press”, the minister made the above revelations known.

The ministry has been tasked by President Mahama to monitor the situation on the international market and counsel cabinet on it.

Touching on negotiations going between Ghana and the IMF, Mr. Tekper noted that home grown policies are strongly being considered in the discussions.

Currently the fund is going through its internal processes and when completed, the minister added that discussions on a Memorandum of Economic Financial Policy will take place before it is signed by the Governor and the Finance Minister.

Negotiations for the 2015 minimum wage and base pay are also currently underway and Mr. Tekper is hopeful conclusions will be reached before the end of the month. The move is part of government's resolve to control the wage bill and improve payroll management.

On the KPMG Audit report regarding ghost names, Mr Tekper said the audit was commissioned by government as part of efforts to clean the public payroll.
