Deputy Ashanti regional minister, Joseph Yammin has urged participants at the 2nd International Economics conference to endeavor to come out with workable and realistic suggestions that would help accelerate the social and economic development process of the country.
He wants the academia, particularly economists to “fully bring their scientific and time-tested theories to bear on the national discourse, in order to drive issues in the country dispassionately and without any malice”.
The Deputy Minister who represented the Ashanti regional Minister, Dr. Samuel Sarpong as the guest speaker at the programme held by the Department of Economics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology focused mainly on the country’s energy situation.
“It is an indisputable fact that energy plays a very vital role in the overall development of any society and Ghana is not an exception. Economic growth and sustainable development would be a mirage without pragmatic measures to provide effective and efficient energy to power and drive the growth and development of the Country. Almost all socio-economic activities stagnate without energy, collapsing businesses and making life unbearable”.
“Energy and sustainable development; the Ghana Experience” is one of the topics for discussion during the 2-day conference that has brought together top energy and economic minds drawn from all over the country including the Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission and the Governor of Ghana’s central bank .
Mr. Yammin emphasized the fact that government is not oblivious of country’s energy crisis and is identifying all possible means to address it. “Most of the initiatives put in place will take time to yield results. That is reason why we welcome any initiative which is aimed at alleviating the difficulties faced by the people of this country arising out of the energy challenges we are facing.”
