Three leading German companies have indicated their intention to set up factories in Ghana to boost the local economy.

The decision to invest in Ghana was announced during the successful 3rd German-African Business Summit (GABS) held last month in Accra.

The three firms are B-Braun, providers of healthcare solutions; Knauf, manufacturers of building materials and Lapp Group, a Stuttgart-based provider of integrated solutions and branded products in the field of cable and connection technology.

Knauf products, particularly plasterboards, cement boards are in high demand in Ghana, and the company is eyeing Takoradi for its base.

Ghana’s Ambassador to Germany, Gina Ama Blay, announced this at the 62nd Independence Day anniversary held in Berlin on Saturday.

The event was held on Saturday to allow Ghanaians living in Germany to participate in the annual event.

Previously, the ambassador hosted foreign diplomats to a cocktail with little participation of Ghanaian residents.

Ambassador Blay said the GABS was successful, with Ghana reaping the benefits currently.

“The event attracted over 750 high-profile business and political leaders both from Germany and Africa who converged in Accra to explore opportunities for building economic partnerships, seeking new markets and business trends.

“Three leading German firms announced their intention to establish in Ghana,” Ambassador Blay said amidst applause from the gathering.

“In the case of Knauf, the company expressed its readiness to build a plant in Ghana to produce these materials at West Park, a 405-acre commercial, industrial and residential development in a strategic location in Takoradi,” Mrs. Blay stated.

She commended the Ghanaian community in Germany for supporting her during her short and successful stay in the European country.

The ambassador appealed to the residents to be guided by the theme of the anniversary ‘peace and unity’ and live in oneness.

She said their contributions to the development of the country cannot go unnoticed, especially their remittances.

President of Union of Ghanaian in Germany, William Nketia, commended Ambassador Blay for changing the ‘face’ of Ghana’s mission.

He was particularly happy that Ghanaians in Germany took part in the event for the first time and lauded the initiative of the envoy.

Deputy Minister for Tourism & Creative Arts, Dr. Ziblim Iddi, who was the guest of honour, acknowledged the contributions of Ghanaians in the diaspora in the development of the country and changes championed by them.

He said ROPAA, for instance, was championed by Ghanaians living abroad, which would soon be implemented.

Dr. Iddi assured Ghanaians living abroad that the Electoral Commission (EC) was working to ensure its full implementation per the court orders.

Ghanaians across Germany travelled to attend the event and expressed their excitement
