The Vice President and head of Ghana's economic management team, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will answer questions relating to the state of Ghana's economy at a town hall meeting on April 3, 2019, at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra.
The town hall meeting, which is aimed at briefing Ghanaians about developments in Ghana, forms part of a new initiative announced by the Ministry of Information on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
Addressing a press briefing, the Minister of Information, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said Dr Bawumia's address will focus on updating the nation on "the economic gains that have been made so far, the current status and the next steps as well".
"... The Ministry of Information is just about rolling out the 2019 Town Hall Meetings and it starts on the 29th of March 2019 with a maiden townhall meeting in Kasoa at the Datus School Park," Mr Oppong Nkrumah said.
"The town hall meetings are designed to bring government closer to the people and shall, therefore, see state actors such as Ministers of state, MMDCEs and head of agencies give an account to the people who will also have an opportunity to ask questions and make contributions towards the governance of our country."
"In all, we expect to have 24 town hall meetings this year 2019. The town hall meetings represent a major shift in government's policy to make information easily accessible and usable to the public here in Ghana and in the diaspora as well".
Mr Oppong Nkrumah said the town hall meetings will be accompanied by an exhibition by the ISD which will provide pictorial and audio-visual evidence of the first three years of change of President Akufo-Addo's administration.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah further disclosed that the third town hall meeting will be held at the Dominion Centre in North London and addressed by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and the Majority Leader in Parliament, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
He said the session will afford Ghanaians in the diaspora the opportunity to get a first-hand account from leadership and put forward their concerns as well.
