Bank of Africa (BoA) Ghana has presented a scholarship package to five brilliant but needy girls in the Northern Region.
The scholarship package, a collaboration between the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the World Food Programme (WFP), was presented at the 11th GES/WFP Girls’ Education Scholarships and Awards Ceremony held lately at Karaga L/A JHS.
Akwasi Britwum, Tamale Branch Manager of the bank, said the scholarship package was part of the Bank’s CSR which aimed at promoting education in the country.
“As a bank, we see ourselves as a member of the society. We will be seen as a non-caring Bank if we do not contribute to the education of our future leaders and leave it only in the hands of government. We understand that our very existence as a Bank is connected to the livelihoods of our clients and so we see this collaboration as perfect fit with our mission of contributing to the development of all our stakeholders”
In 2001, GES and WFP began a scholarship programme to support needy beneficiaries, who excel in the BECE, to complete Senior High School (SHS) without dropping out of school.
The scholarship programme also aims at preventing girls from migrating to larger cities in search of menial jobs and is also aimed at dissuading them from getting into early marriages.
Mr. Britwum said BoA will continue to support developmental projects and initiate its own CSRs to better the lot of communities where the various branches are situated.
The bank recently launched five new products: Employee Pack, Public Service Pack, My Business Pack, Educational Loan and Ambitious Savings Plan.
