Tullow Ghana Limited has pledged to support the modernisation of the National Archives to help preserve the country’s heritage.
Mr. Gayheart Edem Mensah, the Communications Manager of Tullow, said, it was largely due to the operations of this state institution that a boundary dispute between Ghana and neighbouring Cote d’ Iviore over the “Gyata Field” was resolved.
But for documents kept there, he said, the nation can loose a huge treasure, adding ,“It is also to its credit that a potential conflict between the two countries was averted.”
Mr. Mensah was speaking at the opening of a three-day exhibition on the Jubilee Oil Field at the Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
It is being organized jointly by the National Commission on Culture (NCC) and the Nubuke Foundation, an NGO. The nationwide programme is aimed at helping to educate the people on the nation’s oilfields and involves among other things photo exhibition and text information about the history of exploration, development and production.
Similar exhibition had already been held in Tamale, Wa and Sunyani.
Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, said, Government will ensure transparency in the management of the oil revenue to bring benefits and enhance the socio-economic situation of all Ghanaians.
He appealed to the youth to take advantage of the oil production to develop relevant skills in the oil industry.
